Kliest was a German officer of unknown rank whom Hitler called to relay a message to the German units in France regarding The Basterds.
Story[]
Chapter Two - INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS[]
Kliest is called by Hitler via intercom from inside his private lair, to relay a message to the German soldiers stationed in France. The one called Bear Jew will never be referred as Bear Jew. After Kliest complies, he asks Hitler if he wants to see Private Butz. Hitler asks who he is, and Kliest answers that it's the soldier who wanted to see him personally. He is the sole survivor of a German squad ambushed by Lt. Aldo Raine's Basterds. Hitler thanks him for reminding and asks Butz to be send in. Hitler closes the intercom and sits back in his chair, waiting for Butz.
Trivia[]
- The name Kliest is a variation of Kleist. The name seems to be a reference to Ewald von Kleist-Schmenzin and Ewald-Heinrich von Kleist-Schmenzin, two members of German Resistance, father and son, who plotted to assassinate Hitler in the 20 July plot. The mention of Kliest can be interpreted as a foreshadowing of Hitler's fate in the film.
