The domestic cat is a small, usually furry, domesticated, and carnivorous mammal, often used by humans for companionship and their ability to hunt vermin and household pests. They are often seen roaming the streets, abandoned buildings and yards, in search of food.

A cat is seen crossing the street where the country tavern was located. Landa's truck stopped before it crossed path with the feline.

Trivia

• The song from the opening of Chapter Five is aptly called Cat People (Putting Out Fire) by David Bowie, and the song lyrics foreshadow the film climax.
