Dieter Hellstrom picks-up the gramophone

Hellstrom changes the tone.

The phonograph, also called record player or gramophone, is a device introduced in 1877 for the recording and reproduction of sound recordings. The recordings played on such a device consist of waveforms that are engraved onto a rotating cylinder or disc.

In Inglourious Basterds[]

A phonograph is seen in the La Louisiane tavern in Chapter Four, playing the following songs:

  • Davon geht die Welt nicht unter by Zarah Leander - Music played at the La Louisiane gramophone when Bridget is at the soldier's table.
  • The Man with the Big Sombrero, by Samantha Shelton & Michael Andrew - Played when Bridget leaves the soldier's table to join the Basterds.
  • Ich wollt' ich wär' ein Huhn, by Lilian Harvey & Willy Fritsch - Played when Wilhelm asks Bridget for an autograph.

The phonograph is turned off by Major Dieter Hellstrom after its stylus reached its end of vinyl disc, and is not played for the rest of the time in the tavern.
