“I've had a gun pointed at your balls since you sat down.”
Archie Hicox

The Walther PP (police pistol) series pistols are blowback-operated semi-automatic pistols, which were created and manufactured in Germany.

Walther PPK handguns feature an exposed hammer, a traditional double-action trigger mechanism, a single-column magazine, and a fixed barrel which also acts as the guide rod for the recoil spring. The series includes the Walther PP, PPK, PPK/S, and PPK/E.

During World War II, they were issued to the German military, including the Wehrmacht and the Luftwaffe, and was also used by non-military organizations, like the police.

In Inglourious Basterds[]

When disguised as an SS-Hauptsturmführer on way to rendezvous with Bridget von Hammersmark in the La Louisiane tavern, Lt. Archie Hicox carries a Walther PPK. During the same part of Operation Kino, Hugo Stiglitz disguises himself as an SS-Obersturmführer (Lieutenant First Class) and packs his own PPK. Both men end up aiming their pistols at Gestapo Maj. Dieter Hellstrom after they get exposed. After the gunfight in the Nadine tavern, Bridget von Hammersmark picks up Hicox's PPK and fires it at Wilhelm, killing the soldier.

Trivia[]

  • The use of a Walther PPK by Archie Hicox, a British spy/undercover agent, is a reference to the James Bond franchise, where the titular character is a British spy, whose iconic weapon is the Walther PPK.
  • In real life, Adolf Hitler shot and killed himself with his PPK in the Führerbunker from Berlin.
  • Although Diane Kruger is seen holding the gun in the film's promotional images, her character only uses it once, in the tavern, and doesn't carry any other weapon for the rest of the film.
