The Karabiner 98 Kurz (often abbreviated Kar98k, K98, or K98k) was a bolt action rifle chambered for the 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge that was adopted as the standard service rifle in 1935 by the Wehrmacht.

In Inglourious BasterdsEdit

Some of the "basterds", including Lt. Aldo Raine, Wilhelm Wicki, and PFC Gerold Hirschberg carry German Karabiner 98k rifles, most likely taken from German troops they captured and killed. Raine's Karabiner has "Inglourious Basterds" carved into the butt. In the propaganda film-within-a-film Stolz der Nation, "Nation's Pride", Fredrick Zoller fires a Karabiner 98k. With trick editing in "Nation's Pride" (presumably to make the single German soldier appear like a "superhero" to the German audiences), Zoller's bolt-action Karabiner is made to appear to fire semi-automatic shots.
